Corona Ball

Hey everyone,  Situation is definitely crazy but spirits are high. So we got moved to some random suburb outside the city and got quarantined. We can only go out if we have a scheduled lesson, so we do most of our lessons on video call. It's been fun to still be speaking Chinese to all my new friends I've made here. I love learning Chinese so much, it's been one of the biggest blessings of my mission. This week has been so weird, we've spent a lot of time inside. After we studied the scriptures as much as we could and called everyone on our phones, we were still left with a lot of time. So we made up a sport called Corona Ball so we can get some exercise.  My mindset is just to do my best and trust that the Lord has a plan. I know He's got this all figured out, and I don't need to know exactly why the world is facing this crisis right now. There are blessings to be found everywhere. For example, before we got quarantined, we got to help a guy fix a f...

News from Sawyer during the Coronavirus

Hey Mom and Dad, The mission President has asked us to fill out a form that will help us return to America more easily should we need to. We still haven't been quarantined and have no information, but it looks like we all might be sent home. If we are sent home, I will likely be reassigned to a new mission in the States or be released as a missionary until Australia opens up again in several months. My spirits are still high and I'm still working to spread the gospel despite being moved out of my area. We are doing a lot of video call lessons with our investigators. I trust that the Lord has a plan for all of this. I am interested to see what will happen over the next week or so.  I am grateful for a living prophet and the knowledge that I have someone to trust and rely on. Despite the circumstances, peace fills my heart. Love Sawyer

Eating Insects

This week was crazy and it flew by. It's pretty cool because when Elder Graham and I got here 3 weeks ago, we had 0 people to teach and we had a couple days where we were just finding all day long. But the Lord has blessed us and we've been finding people and now we are so busy with appointments that we hardly have time for finding. Things are moving forward and I'm just loving my time here in the city.  We always go around the campus and talk to people and one day there was a stand for free ice cream so obviously we went over to get some. Then the guy opens the bucket of ice cream and it looks so good. It's a nice strawberry flavor and on a hot day it sounded perfect. But then he told us that the point of the free ice cream is to try an alternate food source: insects. The guy took a Tupperware full of crickets and mealworms and liberally dumped them into the ice cream. It was disturbing but at that point we wanted ice cream so we just watched while he mixed th...
