"God... Please make the water hot"
Hey all,
This week was pretty awesome. We had Jenny's baptism. Everything went as planned, which means that everything was kind of weird and didn't work that well, but she got baptized and we all felt the Spirit so it worked out.
About an hour before the baptism, we were filling up the font. The way it works is first fill up the font with cold water, and then add hot water until it's the right temperature. However, after we finished with the cold water, we turned the hot water tap and it was still cold. Elder Yang and I started to worry because we didn't want Jenny to be baptized in a glacial lake. We said a prayer that the water could turn warm since we literally had no chance to do it ourselves. After trying a few different things and calling a few people, there was still no change. Finally, about 15 minutes before they showed up to the baptism, Elder Yang went to feel the water again. It was still cold, and as he kept his hand under the water I asked God to just make the water warm. I had faith it was possible even though it wasn't logical. Suddenly Elder Yang yells 'Ow that's hot!' Our prayer was answered and the baptism proceeded without issues. It was a really great experience for the Gong family, and I was so happy to see the father be able to baptize his daughter. Now the whole family can be together. It was a blessing to be a part of the baptism.
There's an old lady that we've been doing online English classes with. She speaks very basic English but her work ethic is quite admirable. I honestly love teaching her because she is so excited to learn. She asked us last time 'Did I get A, B, or C?'
Of course we gave her an A. She probably would have been so upset if we didn't.
We had a chance to get out of the house and do some service at a community garden. Felt good to get completely covered in mud and then spray Elder Yang with the hose. After doing so much over the phone, having that physical work of doing gardening just felt so refreshing.
Elder Yang and I had a great lesson this week with an old Taiwanese lady. She was getting passed over from another mission and we were in the Zoom call with the two Elders who had been teaching her previously. It was really cool, all 4 of us worked together pretty well and we ended up inviting her to be baptized. So next month hopefully our 65 year old Sister Chen will be baptized. It's such a blessing to testify of Christ and this gospel and see people truly change their lives by following Him.
Time is going by faster and faster. I think I'm much more adjusted to quarantine life, and I've figured out ways to feel closer to the Lord. I've learned that it doesn't matter as much WHAT we do, as much as it matters WHY we do it. I've been better about counseling with the Lord and working with Him to spend my time wisely. It ends up with me feeling much more fulfilled, and that I've done what the Lord would have me do. Praying a lot more throughout the day has helped me stay close to the Spirit even when things get slow or dull.
I've been touched by how happy I feel even though I'm more or less trapped inside four walls for hours on end. I feel so much joy to be a missionary and to help other people improve their lives by turning to Jesus Christ.
